Tireless advocate of rehabilitation, Erwin James, writes once again in the Guardian on the power of art to transform lives, specifically the lives of a group of people frequently written off by society - prisoners.
Synergy Theatre Project is an organisation committed to working with prisoners, ex-prisoners and those young people 'at risk', offering outlets of expression and the opportunity to take part in a meaningful artistic endeavour.
The material of their current production tackles the prison-based relationship between an impressionable young inmate and his next-door cellmate, a serial killer; 'Jesus Hopped the A Train' is a production of both ex-prisoners and professional actors.
Co-founder and artistic director of Synergy, Esther Baker says:
"As a company, we believe that people are more than the worst thing they have done."
Baker's positive message is reinforced by the successful experiences of those who have benefited from the work of Synergy.
