The Irish Penal Reform Trust (IPRT) held a cross-party hustings event on penal reform event in the lead-up to the upcoming General Election. The event took place on Wednesday 20 November 2024. You can watch the recording of the event on our YouTube.
The hustings gave voters an opportunity to hear directly from political candidates about their positions on critical issues related to the prisons and the wider criminal justice system. By facilitating this discussion, we aimed to ensure that penal reform remains a priority in the political agenda and that it empowers the public to make informed choices at the ballot box.
Speakers included sitting TDs and candidates from a number of parties currently represented in Dáil Eireann, outlining what they would do to support progressive penal reform if elected to the next government.
