Pros and Cons: a guide to creating successful community-based HIV/AIDS programs for prisoners

31st December 2002

This is a practical guide for persons or organisations outside the prison system who are attempting to create community-based initiatives to support prisoners with HIV/AIDS.

The manual, which is written in the context of the Canadian prison system, aims to provide the background and structural information necessary to identify common problems faced by prisoners with HIV/AIDS in the community. It suggests a number of tested approaches to help resolve these problems as quickly as possible, and provides detailed guidance on how to begin and sustain a community-based support initiative.
