New research from America has demonstrated the effectiveness of Drug Courts, which are focused on rehabilitation rather than incarceration.
The successes of Drug Courts are the result of the justice system attempting to stem the continuous cycle of drugs and prison by addressing the underlying problems of addiction. One federal study found that by sending people to rehab in lieu of prison has reduced re-offending, scaled back crime rates and delivered impressive reduction in overall costs.
