Despite overcrowding, prison officials told to exclude immigration detainees from temporary release - Dublin Inquirer

In The Dublin Inquirer, IPRT Executive Director Saoirse Brady highlights the human rights concerns arising from detaining immigration detainees in overcrowded prisons. She warns that facilities such as Cloverhill are at “unsafe” and “unacceptable” capacity levels and that imprisonment can have severe psychological impacts on those detained for immigration reasons. IPRT reiterates that immigration detention should be used only in exceptional and proportionate circumstances.
