A report published by the Minister for Justice, from the Inspector of Prisons following an inspection of Mountjoy Prison, was released last night. IPRT's Liam Herrick comments on the report in RTÉ Nine O'Clock News.
The Inspector of Prisons' report highlights how investigations into prisoner complaints has not been addressed adequately by the prison staff or the Director of Public Prosecutions. However, the report also found a 'sea-change' in the hygiene/cleanliness of the prison - although this positive findings remains qualified whilst slopping out and overcrowding persist.
