Inspecting Private Prisons

24th August 2005

This brief provides an evidence-based rebuttal of the Prison Inspector's call in 2005 for private prisons. The main purpose of this brief was to challenge then Justice Minister McDowell's plans to privatise prisons in Ireland.

In the brief, the Irish Penal Reform Trust demonstrates that the international evidence of prison privatisation did not support the recommendations of the Inspector.
