The Annual Report of the Interagency Group for a Fairer and Safer Ireland 2022 was published on 11 July 2023.
The main purpose of the Group is to implement two key recommendations of the Penal Policy Review Group Report, which call for much greater cross-government cooperation in the management and rehabilitation of offenders and crime prevention in general.
The annual report outlines the work the Interagency Group undertook during 2022. The areas of work included in the report focus on education, housing, employment and social inclusion, and healthcare. Other key points noted by the Group include;
- The publication of Understanding reoffending: Push factors and preventative responses in November 2022.
- Identifing the need for an up-to-date study on homelessness amongst those coming into contact with the Irish criminal justice system.
- Government approval of Review of Policy Options for Prison and Penal Reform 2022-2024 in August 2022.
