IPRT are proud to have collaborated on 'Unseen, Unheard': Advancing the Rights and Needs of Children with a Parent in Prison seminar event.
This event took place on Wednesday 6th September, at the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission.
It was aimed at raising awareness of the need to develop a national advocacy strategy to support children with a parent in prison. IPRT is part of a collaboration with lead partners University College Cork and the Children’s Rights Alliance.
Speakers included: Ilina Taneva, (Council of Europe, Secretary to the Council for Penological Co-operation); Tim Haines (Family Support Manager, Families Outside, Scotland); Larry de Cléir (Project Leader, Bedford Row); Fergal Black (Director of Care and Rehabilitation, Irish Prison Service) and Fergal Landy (Regional Implementation Manager for Prevention, Partnership and Family Support, West, TUSLA).
Key principles were presented, which are expected will, after consultation, form the basis of a national strategy in this area. These principles, known currently as 'Principles of Action for Children with a Parent in Prison' are available to view here.
An additional Explanatory Document is available to view here.
