We are thrilled to announce that IPRT, along with our partners in NIACRO (Northern Ireland Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders), have been awarded funding through the All-Island Fund, by The Community Foundation for Ireland and The Community Foundation for Northern Ireland.
We are very fortunate to have an established relationship with NIACRO that dates back more than 10 years, founded on our shared values and common mission to build safer communities through reducing crime, combatting social inequality, and addressing harms associated with the criminal justice system.
IPRT will be working with NIACRO on research, knowledge sharing, and leadership in criminal justice reform across the island on a project titled ‘Leadership for safer and more equal communities’. Issues we expect to work together on as part of this project, given our long-standing histories of both service provision and advocacy in the areas, include supporting women in the criminal justice system and barriers associated with criminal convictions histories.
Our activities as part of this project will include two knowledge exchange seminars, joint research, the development of shared policy positions on cross-border issues, and the strengthening and establishment of separate networks of voluntary/community organisations in both jurisdictions, to support a collective voice in advocating for criminal justice reform.
We look forward to updating our supporters on these areas of work (and more) in due course!
Respect for rights in the penal system with prison as a last resort.
