Report: Community or Custody - Evidence and Sentencers’ Perspectives on Community Service orders and Short-Term Prison Sentences

On 6 November 2024, the Department of Justice launched their report Community or Custody? Evidence and Sentencers’ Perspectives on Community Service Orders (CSOs) and Short-Term Prison Sentences.
The report was authored by Prof. Nicola Carr (University of Nottingham) and Dr. Niamh Maguire (South East Technological University).
The research highlights barriers, perceived and real, to the use of CSOs by the judiciary and explores ways to encourage their use.
