Irish Penal Reform Trust

Second meeting of the IPRT Solicitor Panel

8th December 2021

The second meeting of the IPRT Solicitor Panel took place on Wednesday 8 December 2021. (For more information on the purpose of the panel, see our previous post relating to the Panel.)

Issues raised during the meeting include: difficulties accessing clients (in person, via video link and via phone); lack of access to appropriate mental health facilities across the country; the robustness of inquest procedures in respect of prisoner deaths; the adequacy of the prisoner complaints system; and ongoing confusion about the new parole processes and how the transfer from old Board to new Board is being managed.

If you are a solicitor working in a practice area relating to IPRT’s objectives and would like to feed into our work, please contact hkehoe@iprt.ie to express an interest in joining the Panel.
