The figures released for April 2017 have shown an upwards trend in most sectors of the report when analysed against figures in the past year. The following figures illustrate the current and past figures for those on restricted regimes.
The April 2017 survey highlights that the number of prisoners on restricted regimes has increased by 2 compared to January 2017. An increase from 428 to 430 (January-April 2017) an increase of 0.5%. This represents an upward trend on the figures from January 2016.
There was an increase from 339 to 368 (January – April 2016), an increase from 402 to 424 (July – October 2016) and 424 to 428 (October 2016- January 2017).
Those on a restricted regime for protection reasons (Rule 63) was 401, (394 were there at their own request). This also represents an increase on 2016 figures of 378 (October 2016) and 343 (April 2016). An increase of 58 on last year’s figures.
The number of people on 22 and 23 hour restricted regime was 44 (23hr –17, 22hr - 27) which represents a decrease of 28 (39%) on January 2017. An increase from 31 (October 2016) but a decrease from 85 (April 2016).
