Census of Restricted Regime Prisoners October 2015The Irish Prison Service Statistics Office has recently published its quarterly census of Restricted Regime Prisoners in the Irish prison system. The result of the October 2015 survey shows that the number of prisoners on restricted regimes decreased by 10 in the overall figure compared to July 2015.
Key facts and figures from the report:
•There are 1,025 prisoners classified as protection prisoners. 325 of this category of prisoner had their regimes restricted within the prisons. (Rule 63).
•389 prisoners from the entire prison population were subject to a restricted regime 325 (8.8% of prison population 3,685) prisoners were on protection (Rule 63). 324 of this category of prisoner were on restricted regimes based on their own request
•39 prisoners were restricted on grounds of order within their prison. (Rule 62)
•No prisoners were restricted due to discipline at the time of making the report (Rule 67, Part 3 Prisons Act 2007).
