Inspector of Prisons and Places of Detention Report 2004-2005

30th April 2006

Dr. Whitaker’s report over 20 years ago said that St. Patrick’s should be closed immediately and no more money wasted on it. Unfortunately, the Minister’s reaction to that Report was to transfer everything to Thornton Hall. Meanwhile, the Inspector is strongly of the opinion that the view of Dr. Whitaker should be implemented. The present situation is a continuing disaster.

Prisoners do have human rights and do have addictions. This eye opening report highlights the poor conditions and services of Irish prisons as well the need for adequate representation for prisoner complaints.
