The Minister for Justice, Mr. Alan Shatter, has today published the Inspector of Prisons Annual Report 2010.
The report contains information about visits to each prison in Ireland by Judge Michael Reilly, and his recommendations to the Irish Prison Service.
Judge Reilly outlines conditions in each of the prisons relating to overcrowding, in-cell sanitation and the lack of services and regimes in some prisons.
He is particularly concerned about conditions in Castlerae, Limerick, Cork and the Dóchas Centre.
He has also expressed interest in extending his role to become a regulator of the prison service as well as an inspector.
