HIV/AIDS in Youth Custody Settings: A Comprehensive Strategy
18th June 1996
This report calls for a comprehensive education as the first step to preventing HIV infection in young offenders. However, not only young offenders need to be educated: stopping the discrimination against those with HIV/AIDS and those engaging in behaviours associated with HIV/AIDS requires that HIV/AIDS education be directed at everyone involved with the young offender system.
The report goes on to recommend a series of steps that should be taken to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in juvenile prisons including: compulsory education for all young offenders and staff as well, and peer education.
