A new project for young people 'at risk' and young offenders is hoping to tackle youth crime with the regimen of professional dance, reports Helen Carter in The Guardian. Participants are referred to a gruelling 12-week programme, entailing 25 hours of work per week, at the end of which they receive a certificate in basic practical performance skills.
So far the results have been impressive, with a reduction in reoffending rates for those young people participating, and the benefits of being a cost effective approach to crime prevention.
New Philanthropy Capital has praised the work of the project, and highlighted the role of the voluntary sector in providing innovative responses to crime.
