We are pleased to announce that IPRT is one of 28 recipients of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission’s (IHREC) Human Rights and Equality Grant 2021-2022.
IPRT's project, 'Access to rights for people detained in secure forensic mental health facilities', will scope the need for a national policy advocacy strategy to promote the rights of people with disabilities detained in secure forensic mental health facilities in Ireland. We look forward to keeping our supporters updated on the progress of the project.
In 2020, IPRT was awarded funding from the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) to pursue a research and awareness-raising campaign focused on the rights and experiences of migrants and ethnic minorities in the penal system in Ireland. This work is ongoing. The support of IHREC made our research and advocacy on solitary confinement possible in 2017/2018 and enabled our pioneering research on people with disabilities in prison. We are grateful to IHREC for supporting us to carry out ground-breaking research in particular areas.
A list of all Human Rights and Equality Grant 2021-22 awardees is available on the IHREC website here.
Respect for rights in the penal system with prison as a last resort.
