Toolkit and standards for Traveller Peer Support projects in prison

4th December 2019

The Travellers in Prison Initiative (TPI) have recently published Mincéir in the Respoon: Toolkit and Standards for Traveller Peer Support Projects in Prison. The TPI was developed in 2014 by the St Stephen's Green Trust (SSGT) as a response to the specific needs and experiences of Travellers in prison in Ireland. TPI is funded by the SSGT, the HSE, the Irish Prison Service and the Irish Probation Service.

The current publication, consisting of three elements - a toolkit for undertaking peer support for Travellers in prison, standards for Traveller peer support projects to follow, and resources and templates to support peer support groups and facilitators - was commissioned by Meath Travellers' Workshop (MTW) in partnership with TPI. The toolkit was developed based on an evaluation of current peer support practices in Irish prisons and lessons from peer support work elsewhere.
