The Journal: Opinion - Allowing prisoners to vote is a symbolic indication that they remain citizens

Vice-chair of the Irish Penal Reform Trust (IPRT) board, Dr Cormac Behan, outlined how prisoners in Ireland were given the right to vote and how the process now works in an opinion piece in The Journal.

Voting in Prison - National Voter Registration Day 2024

On the National Day of Voter Register 2024, Irish Penal Reform Trust (IPRT) is highlighting that people in prison have the same right to register to vote as people in the community. The right to vote should be facilitated and protected within the prison estate, just as it is in the rest of our community.

Letter to Governors: Voting in prison

Irish Penal Reform Trust has written to Prison Governors asking them to put in place measures to support voter registration and facilitate voting in each prison ahead of the upcoming local and European elections.

Our work is supported by
